Dear Fyle Families,
What a fun way to wrap up September at Fyle! Spirit Week was a huge success, and our Fyle Cubs brought so much energy and school spirit to each day's theme. From favorite hats and sports teams to bright colors, it was wonderful to see students and staff joining in the fun.

Additionally, it was wonderful to see so many families join us for our Annual Fyle Open House last week! Our students love having the opportunity to show off their hard work, share their classrooms, and introduce their families to the people and places that make Fyle so special. Thank you for taking the time to be part of our school community and for helping make the evening such a success!
Thank You!
Thank you, Fyle families, for making attendance a priority! We are thrilled to see that our attendance is looking better than ever, and that is thanks in large part to the tremendous effort you are making to get your children to school every day and on time.
Every school day matters! Being at school consistently helps children stay connected to their teachers and classmates, keep up with learning, build important routines, and feel confident and successful in the classroom.
October SEL Topic: Self-Management and Be Trustworthy!
Self-management is the ability to manage our emotions, thoughts, and actions in different situations. At Fyle, we want students to develop the skills to make thoughtful choices, manage challenges, take ownership when they make mistakes, and follow through on their responsibilities. Being trustworthy means showing through our words and actions that others can count on us! Your child should have come home with this paper with ways you can help at home.

Fyle Lunch Guests
We are excited to welcome families to join their children during lunch. To help ensure a positive experience for all, please keep these guidelines in mind:
- Check in at the office. A valid photo ID is required.
- Be mindful of all students. Many Fyle Cubs have parents who cannot visit for lunch. For this reason, we ask that you refrain from bringing outside treats (such as fast food, donuts, or desserts).
- Purchasing lunch. If you’d like to purchase lunch, the price list is here. We cannot accept credit cards—you will need cash or check, and checks must be for $5 or more. Transactions cannot be made on your child’s student account.
- Plan ahead for siblings. If younger siblings are unable to sit and remain engaged during lunch, please make other arrangements.
- Keep visits occasional. Lunch visits are intended for special occasions or occasional visits rather than on a regular basis. This allows students to enjoy time socializing and building friendships with their peers.
End visits in the cafeteria. Please refrain from walking your child back to class, as parents/guardians are not permitted in other areas of the building for safety reasons.

Be an Attendance H.E.R.O.
Our goal is for every student to attend school at least 95% of the time. Regular attendance is an important part of student success and helps ensure that students do not miss valuable learning opportunities. To celebrate students who demonstrate excellent attendance, students who maintain 95% attendance or higher will earn an attendance bracelet each quarter! Attendance will reset at the beginning of each quarter, giving every student a fresh opportunity to reach 95% and earn a new bracelet. For more about R-H Attendance Policy click here.

Fyle Open House
We look forward to seeing our students in grades UPK-3 and their families at our Open House Wednesday, September 30. This is a nice, informal opportunity to see the classroom and school. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Training for Students
New York state law requires schools to provide all students with annual, age-appropriate awareness training related to Sudden Cardiac Arrest and similar life-threatening emergencies. Each Rush-Henrietta school will be providing this training via a brief video in the weeks to come. The purpose is to help students understand how to recognize someone may be experiencing a cardiac emergency and what they should do in response. Students are not being trained or expected to perform CPR, use an AED, or provide medical treatment. The central message is simple. Recognize when something may be wrong, get an adult immediately, and allow trained adults to respond fully to the situation. Please click here for more details.
Rush-Henrietta Remote Learning Plan
In the interest of proactive planning, families are encouraged to review the district’s Remote Learning Parent Letter for important information regarding expectations, procedures, and resources related to remote instruction in the event of emergency school closures or weather-related situations that require a switch to remote learning. Dear Fyle Families,
What a wonderful week of school we had at Fyle! On Wednesday, we added an extra dose of fun by celebrating National Care Bear Day. During lunch, our school social worker, Miss Kylee Ego, and our school counselor, Miss Krissy Angie, handed out Care Bear stickers. It was the perfect way to share a caring message.
Thank you to those who came out to our Welcome Back Social. Despite the rainy weather we enjoyed ice cream and a wonderful magic show from our own 2nd grade teacher, Mr. Titus! A HUGE thank you to our amazing Parent Group who purchased some Fyle "swag" for us to enjoy at our events.

Another highlight was our first Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) school assembly. Our UPK, kindergarten and new-to-Fyle students were officially introduced to our Fyle Cub mascot, Adabu. The name means respect or politeness in Swahili. Students also learned what it means to be a Fyle Cub and how to grow great minds this school year!

School Picture Day
Picture day is Monday, September 21! Forms will be sent home with your child. You can also click on this link for information on ordering pictures online. Here is a list of frequently asked questions. Picture re-take day is on Monday, October 26.
Safety Drills
As part of our continuing efforts to make schools as safe as possible for all students and staff, Rush-Henrietta holds safety drills. We will practice a variety of safety drills during the year. These drills are designed for practicing and assessing emergency response procedures. Each school will practice evacuation, medical emergency, and lockdown emergency response procedures. We are required to complete eight evacuation drills before December. If you would like more information about how Rush-Henrietta and Fyle are keeping students and staff safe, visit this link on the district website.

Dear Fyle Families,
What a fantastic first two days at Fyle! We have been so happy to welcome back our returning Fyle Cubs and to meet all of our new students. Our hallways are once again filled with smiles, laughter, learning, and the wonderful energy that makes the first days of school so special.

We are already seeing students make new friends, reconnect with familiar faces, and settle into their classrooms. A huge thank-you to our incredible staff for creating such a warm and welcoming start to the year.
We know there is a lot of information to take in at the beginning of the school year! Please take a few minutes to carefully review the information below. We hope it will help you feel prepared, informed, and ready for a wonderful year ahead at Fyle!

Have You Downloaded ParentSquare?
If you haven’t already, please download the ParentSquare app and make sure your notifications are turned on! It’s one of the best ways to stay connected and ensure you don’t miss important information, especially from your classroom teacher and staff. If you have not set up your account or need more information, please visit this link.

Have you Downloaded StopFinder?
StopFinder provides real-time access to your child’s transportation schedule. You can share access with trusted family members, receive notifications when the bus departs school, when your child gets dropped off at home, and more. If you haven't downloaded the StopFinder app yet, please do so. Click here for more information.
Have You Filled Out Your Important Information “Blue Card?”
Each student received a “blue card” (paper) in their “Fyle Take-Home” folder the first day of school. Check this for accuracy and please ensure your handwritten changes are neatly printed and easy to read. Double-check that we have your correct email address and phone number listed on the blue card because email and phone calls are the way we send school and district information. It is really important that these are updated and accurate! You will need to send the blue card back with your child to school. Please note, when you add someone to the blue card, this does not grant them permission to make any dismissal changes for your child - we will need to hear directly from the parent/guardian.

Arrival Reminder
Beginning this Tuesday, the side door entrance doors will be closed at 7:44 a.m. If you arrive after that time, you will need to park your car and walk your child to the main entrance to sign them in. For safety reasons, please do not park in or use the drop-off loop after 7:44 a.m., as buses will be arriving in that area. As a reminder, student drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m., giving families a 14-minute window to drop off students before the side entrance closes at 7:44 a.m.
Need to Pick Up Your Child Early From School?
If you will need to pick your child up early from school or change his/her normal dismissal process, please fill out this form. Please complete this form no later than 1 p.m. on the day of the early pick-up/dismissal change. If it is past 1 p.m., you must call the main office at 359-5430 and provide a reason for the late request. Emergencies may be accommodated with principal review/approval. We regret that we are unable to process same-day requests received after 1 p.m. through this form.

Fyle Parent Group Welcome Back Social
We are excited to kick-off the school year with some fun at Fyle’s Annual Welcome Back Social from 6 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9. Click here for the flyer. This will be the perfect opportunity to meet your child's classmates and other families. You may bring your own picnic dinner and then make sure to grab an ice cream from Frios Gourmet Pops while enjoying a magic show!
September Social Emotional Learning
Click on our September SEL Newsletter to learn more about which SEL competency your child will be working on at school this month.
Free Breakfast and Lunch
All students are welcome to take part in our free breakfast and lunch program again this year. If your child would like breakfast, please remind them to pick it up right after getting off the bus before heading to their classroom. It’s also very helpful, especially for our younger students, if families take a few minutes to look over the lunch menu the night before. This way, your child comes to school ready to make their lunch choice with confidence! You can find the menu here. You can also see the menu on the Mealviewer website and indicate food preferences and allergy alerts.
Save the Date - Fyle Open House
We look forward to seeing our students in grades UPK-3 and their families at our Open House on Wednesday evening, September 30. This is a nice, informal opportunity to see the classroom and school. Dear Fyle Families,
Happy Back to School! We are looking forward to seeing all our Fyle Cubs’ smiling faces when they walk into school on Thursday morning! We will have our Fyle staff in multiple locations around the building to welcome and greet your child. We’ll make sure all students locate their classrooms and those who need breakfast get a chance to eat.
Please remember on the first day of school buses may be running late picking students up in the morning and dropping them off after school as they get used to the routes (and there are many pictures taken on the first day). Be sure to read our arrival and dismissal procedures below. With safety and security in mind, family members are not allowed to walk students into the building to classrooms.
Here is some other important information to help your family prepare as we head back to school.

Fyle Meet & Greets (UPK-3)
We can’t wait to meet and greet our Fyle Cubs Wednesday, September 2! You and your child will have an opportunity to swing by Fyle, meet your teacher, drop off your school supplies, and mingle with new classmates. You will not be able to walk your child to their classroom on the first day of school so this is an opportunity to see the classroom and meet the teacher.
Grade 3: Noon to 12:45 p.m.
Grade 2: 12:45 to 1:30 p.m.
Grade 1: 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.
Kinder & UPK: 2:15 to 3 p.m.
Miss Cooke’s and Mrs. Olsen’s classes will attend the 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Meet & Greet.
School Hours
Starting at 7:30 a.m. each day, students who are dropped off by car will be escorted into school as they arrive. The goal is to help reduce the length of the car line and help everyone be inside the building by 7:44 a.m. The doors will then be closed promptly at 7:44 a.m. During the first few days of school, timing will be flexible as everyone gets used to the routines. Buses depart Fyle at 2 p.m. Expect buses to run late the first few days as drivers get acclimated to their routes.

Attendance Matters
I want to remind families of the importance of regular school attendance. Being present in the classroom makes a big difference. That is why it’s also important that students arrive at school on time every day. If you know your child will be absent from school or tardy, be sure to call the school attendance line (359-5441) and provide your name, your child’s name (and their teacher’s name) and the reason for the absence or tardiness. Please see the district’s updated Attendance Policy for more information.

Growing Great Minds! - SEL School Theme
Our school-wide theme this year is “Growing Great Minds!” inspired by Lola Plants a Garden by Anna McQuinn. In the story, Lola learns that growing a garden takes patience, care, effort, and time—just like growing as a learner.
Throughout the year, we’ll use this theme to celebrate both academic and social-emotional growth. Our Fyle Cubs will learn that mistakes help us grow, challenges build perseverance, and strong relationships help us thrive. Together, we’ll plant the seeds, nurture the growth, and watch our students bloom!
Birthday Celebrations - Sharing Treats & Invitations
Due to allergies, safety concerns with sharing food, and classroom interruptions, we do not allow parents to bring in food/treats for birthdays. Should you desire to distribute party invitations in school, make sure there are enough for each student in the class. Your child’s teacher will let you know how they plan on recognizing birthdays in the classroom.
Important Information on ‘Blue Cards’
Each student will receive a blue card in their “Fyle Take-Home” folder the first day of school. Check this for accuracy and please ensure your handwritten changes are printed and easy to read.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedure for UPK
To ensure that all students and families stay safe, please read this document before the first day of school. We have a list of adults that have permission to pick up your child. Every adult (including you) will need to have their ID ready to show our staff until we learn faces. If you ever need to pick up your child early, read our early pick-up procedure below.
Not Riding the Bus Home?
If you plan on picking up your child regularly at dismissal, please fill out this form. This form will also provide the information used for the Permanent Pick-Up Tags that will be given to you the first days of school. Arrangements can still be changed anytime in the school year with prior notice. Every adult (including you) will need to have their ID ready to show our staff until we learn faces. This form is only for students that will not utilize district school buses.
Early or As-Needed Pick-Up
If you will need to pick your child up early from school or change his/her normal dismissal process, please fill out this form.
Important Reminder About Afterschool Transportation
Bus drivers are not able to drop children in grades K-3 off at home without a parent or guardian present. If an adult is not visible to the driver, or a child cannot make his or her way inside the house, the child will be transported to Carlton Webster building, 2000 Lehigh Station Road. This service will cost $25 the first time it is used, $40 the second time, and $50 the third time. Payment is due on arrival and may be paid with cash or credit card. After three occurrences in a school year, you will be required to find adequate child care. The district’s Cub Care program is an option. Cub Care at Carlton Webster building closes at 5 p.m. and children must be picked up by then.
StopFinder
StopFinder provides real-time access to your child’s transportation schedule. You can share access with trusted family members, receive notifications when the bus departs school, and much more. If you haven't downloaded the StopFinder app yet, please do so. Click here for more information.
Fyle Handbook
Here is a link to our Fyle Handbook. This is a useful resource for you to find all you need to know regarding procedures and pertinent information for the upcoming school year.
FREE Breakfast and Lunch for ALL!
Once again, our district is participating in the free breakfast and lunch program that allows all of our students to eat for free. Only complete meals are free and students will have to pay for snacks and additional entrees. Sometimes our little ones (UPK-1) aren’t sure if they need to get breakfast or not. It might be a good idea to let the classroom teacher know if your child should be getting breakfast each day. Reminding your child is also appreciated!
Fyle Parent Group Meeting
The Fyle Parent Group is our parent-led organization that sponsors many events throughout the year to bring families together, provide fun and learning for our students, and to support our school community. Our parent group meetings are a great way to stay informed and to be involved in school. We hope to see you at the first meeting at 5 p.m. on September 9 before our Welcome Back Social.

The Cub Care Office has Moved!
The business office for Cub Care Zone has moved to its new location in the Carlton Webster building, 2000 Lehigh Station Road. The phone number remains the same – 359-7911. If you need to visit the office in person to drop off forms or pay a bill, please enter through door 22 at the front of the building (look for signage). This does not impact the location of before- and after-school Cub Care.

Hello Incoming Kindergartners and Families!

Summer is in full swing, and we are busy preparing to welcome you to Fyle! We are so excited to meet our new kindergartners and their families. Below you’ll find helpful information for the summer months, along with a few things to keep in mind as you get ready for September.
Kindergarten Readiness Summer Calendar
You should have received this Kindergarten Readiness Summer Calendar in the mail. We encourage you to work alongside your child to help their body and brain grow strong before coming to kindergarten! July is full of fine, gross, and visual motor activities along with tasks that will help strengthen sensory and executive function skills. August includes academic activities involving early reading and math skills. Make sure to continue to read books with your child as much as you can to help develop a rich vocabulary and build background knowledge. There are also many resources on our Welcome to Kindergarten website.
Kindergarten Teacher Assignments
We are in the process of making class lists for the upcoming school year. We receive some information from our UPK programs, however, if your child did not attend, or if there is anything you would like me to know about your child, please email me at mmooney@rhnet.org or call 359-5438. Teacher assignment and transportation information will be communicated in late August.
Kindergarten Bus Orientation
Our Annual Kindergarten School Bus Orientation will be held on August 17 and August 18 with a rain date of August 19. It is 90 minutes of hands-on learning on how to be safe on and around a school bus. The goal is to not only teach safety, but to ease any first day fear of the bus. You can read all of the details by clicking here and click here to sign-up.

Kindergarten and UPK Party on the Playground
Come visit us at Fyle from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, August 27, for some playground fun. This is a wonderful chance for incoming kindergarten families to connect, and for your child to meet future classmates before the school year begins. Fyle Meet & Greet Day

Happy Summer, Fyle Families!
I hope you’re all having a great start to the summer. It’s lonely here in the building, but we are busy preparing for the upcoming school year!
During the last week of school, our teachers spoke with students about the importance of practicing their reading, writing, and math skills over the break. As the saying goes, “If you don’t use it, you lose it!” Please read below for some helpful suggestions to prevent the “summer slide” and keep skills strong all season long.

Summer Reading Challenge
Each Fyle Cub (K-2) received a summer literacy and math calendar designed to encourage continued practice throughout the summer. We hope you’ve already begun exploring the activities and are keeping your skills sharp this summer! In addition, you should have received information from Assemblymember Harry Bronson regarding his “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading Challenge. Readers who complete this challenge will receive an Excellence in Reading certificate from him.
SORA and Online Resources
You can access online books by visiting SORA. Use your child’s student login. You can also check out remastered segments of the original “Reading Rainbow” by clicking on this link. Choose a story, listen together, and engage in a conversation using open-ended questions such as:
What was this story about?
Why do you think the author wrote this story?
What was the main idea or lesson in the story?
Incoming Kindergarteners
For our incoming kindergarten students, you should have received this Summer Learning Calendar. One of the best things you can do for your child is to read to them daily for enjoyment. Research shows that children who are read to regularly enter school with stronger language skills, a larger vocabulary, and greater readiness for learning. In fact, studies have found that reading aloud to young children is the single most important activity for building the knowledge they will need for success in reading. Even just 15 minutes a day can make a big difference in helping your child develop a love for books and a strong foundation for learning.
Other Summer Reminders
Don’t forget to encourage your child to play outside with friends to help balance screen time. Visiting local landmarks is also a great way to build background knowledge and spark curiosity. The Henrietta Town Library is another wonderful resource for checking out books and participating in fun summer activities. And don’t forget—we have TONS of children’s books available right here at Fyle in our main foyer. Feel free to stop by and take a stack home to enjoy!
